RMS saddened to learn of death of Professor David Stephens
The RMS is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Professor David Stephens - an outstanding cell biologist and recipient of the RMS Scientific Achievement Award.
For more than 20 years, David was a group leader in the School of Biochemistry at University of Bristol, where he became well known for his use of advanced light microscopy and electron microscopy to study the secretory pathway.
A hugely respected figure within the microscopy community, David was also a member of the RMS Life Sciences Section for several years, supporting meetings including the Microscience Microscopy Congress (mmc). In 2023 he was awarded the RMS Scientific Achievement Award for his work spanning over 30 years of excellence in research.
In addition to his own, highly influential research, David was well known as a collaborator on many projects, generously giving of his time and mentorship to support the cell biology community.
The Society offers its sincerest condolences to David's family and friends at this time.
